Besitos y Adios

Sometime before you became mi abuelita.
Sometime before you became mi abuelita.

Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.

I dreamed of you on the day you left. You were wearing a fancy red dress with bright lipstick to match. A shiny black patent leather handbag dangled in the crook of your arm. Your hair in pin curls. So beautiful.

Curiously I asked, “Where are you going abuela?”

“I have to go mijita, I’m late. Besitos,” was your reply.

One last kiss on the cheek, one last hug. Your rose scented perfume trailed behind as you engaged the deadbolt from the other side of the door. I stood there alone looking out your front window confused and wondered where you were going in such a fever. Your high heels swiftly click clacked across the street. No looking back. Eyes fixed straight ahead. Excitement and happiness buzzed all around you. I cried softly in my sleep knowing when I awoke you would be gone.

I miss you so much but I’m so glad you stopped to say goodbye.

Love,

Sandra
