I rarely venture far from the shire so my travel album is rather thin. I leave the adventuring to you dear reader. So hop to it and do report back often with picture stories and updates, won’t you? But before you go, let me share a few of my wanderings with you.
Muir Woods
Like a magic beanstalk twisting up high into the sky, these redwoods congregate above the clouds, the tippy top likely looks down on the sun.
Big Basin
This redwood up ahead of Erik is just a baby compared to some.
Santa Cruz
I don’t know why this picture is pixilated in the sky portion. Bummer.
See that sail boat in the previous pic? You can pay to climb aboard and pretend you’re sailin’ away to key largo. Which is how we were able to get this perspective of the lighthouse.
Yosemite
Giant sequoias, flowery meadows, waterfalls, and mobs of people everywhere. Loaded down tour buses of sightseers makes this a congested place to navigate. Check it out on the off season.
American River
A day hike about 40 minutes from home and when we’re on the trail it feels like we’re worlds away.
Hawaii
Erik won a trip to Hawaii one year through his work. Just beautiful.
What about you dear reader? Do you like to travel? Where is your favorite destination? Do you pack flip flops, hiking boots, or fancy shoes for your vacations?
Texas is so big, it takes FOREVER to drive out of it, so we rarely are able to cross the state line. For the first time in over a decade, we’re going to get on a plane next month and head to the east coast. I’ve never seen the Atlantic Ocean. But Hawaii is the dream vacation! I wanted that as a honeymoon, but we were saving our money, so we’ve never been. How fun to only be 40 min from redwoods! Sail away to Key Largo…

So much to see in Texas! I’ve heard lots about Austin. What’s that like?

Other than drought? Growing up here was like a big hippie liberal backyard party with a college smack dab in the middle of town. “Keep Austin Weird” bumper stickers, Whole Foods and vegans, gay pride parades, Willie Nelson and cowboys, bbq and chili, sparkling Lake Travis and sunny weather, Tex-Mex food, the hill country, oak trees and bluebonnets, beer and margaritas, clubbing on Sixth Street, 24/7 restaurants w/ migas brunches, Barton Springs swimming (w/ ladies topless sometimes!), lots of health-conscious jogging people. Less redneck than the rest of the state, less conservative. That’s good and bad. Very open city, allows you live your crazy, do your thing. Safer than bigger Texas towns. Peaceful, no-nukes. Jalapenos. No redwoods. 🙂

Grew up in rural central california (think midwest). No stoplights, tiny town surrounded by agriculture, giant farms, more cows than people. Less than 70 students in my graduating class. Now I live north of the area where I grew up. Sacramento, city of trees. Near the river. Working class community about 2.5 hours from the aristocrats who live by the sea. Sacramento is conservative but the neighborhood we live in is mixed and if I had to guess, more liberal. An affordable area of CA to raise a family. 😉

I’m just fortunate to live within driving distance to these great sites. Thank you! Where’s MilfordStreet if you don’t mind me asking?

It is in a little town in New Hampshire called Brookline. It is no far from the border with Massachusetts. 🙂

I totally get that Jeanette! The only reason we made it to Hawaii is because it was paid for by Erik’s job at the time. The rest of our travels are places we can get to by car. If you ever make it to CA, let me know! Would be fun to meet up! Xoxo

You have proven that quality over quantity wins every time, Sandra. What fantastic places you have been. Thank you for sharing your great photos. I am in love with the Redwoods.
Karen and I loved our trip to Hawaii. Paradise is an understatement. I have been lucky enough for her to show me California, San Diego to San Francisco. And I have shown her the beaches of Long Island and the skyscrapers of Manhattan.
We’ve gone to Bermuda. Jamaica. Mexico. Key West. Halifax, St. John, Boston, Bar Harbor, Baltimore.
We are lucky.
Next month we are returning for a week at a wonderful little cottage we rent from friends in Cape Cod. You will see pictures and read stories.

I cannot wait to get to travelling again. Hopefully I’ll have a cohort next time around. 🙂 It’s hard to choose a favorite place when each destination has had unique qualities.
