I Googled these guys and learned that they are described as “persistent and pugnacious.” Sounds like anger management problems if you ask me. I’d like to recommend meditation but I’m afraid to get too close.

Thank you Chris! I will not intentionally stalk persistent, pugnacious insects today. Our high is expected to be 102 this afternoon. Might be a good day to mine the archives indoors instead. I hope you are doing well!

At 102 degrees, it’s definitely a day to go to your archives. It’s about 20 degrees cooler here and I’m hoping for a bike ride between classes and zoom calls.

Hello there! Thank you so much for visiting. I did not realize how aggressive these guys can be until after I took the pictures and researched them. I feel for you having been swarmed by them. That sounds terrifying. I will be sure to avoid these guys in the future!

Thank you so much Pete! He appeared as a loner on a rose bush along a path. Not sure what he was investigating, mites or aphids maybe? With bright yellow colors he really stood out. I hope you’re doing well.

They definitely are territorial creatures, Sandra, and they love to stake claim to picnic food. I’ve been stung, and, yoweeee! Social distance from the yellow jackets for sure. Great photos!

I’m feeling very fortunate to be in the minority here as someone who hasn’t been on the receiving end of their anger. Sounds absolutely painful! So sorry to hear that. I will gladly give these guys all the room they need in the future! Thanks for the insights, bro!
