California Poppy

Santa Cruz, California

State flower as of 1903. Also known as the flame flower.

Looking Back

For throwback Thursday. Nineteen ninety something. Wearing my grandma’s peacoat. She passed around this time. I was visiting San Francisco with family. Had a splitting headache. Beautiful day otherwise.

Not Nebraska

Lincoln, California Spring 2015

Missing the green grass lately. This spot is brittle and brown these days. The tree remains upright, carefree, a little distressed but mostly in good form. “Arbolito arbolito bajo tu sombra…”

Daisys and Sunflowers

This is the region of California my mother, grandmother, aunts, and uncles harvested for a living.

Abandoned like an empty beer bottle, cigarette butt, worn-out shoe.
