This looks very like our Holly Blue butterfly, especially the female: https://butterfly-conservation.org/butterflies/holly-blue
It’s unlikely we’ll see any butterflies now, the last one I recorded was a Red Admiral back in the middle of October. I love butterflies. A gorgeous photo Sandra 😘
Hello Ashley, thank you so much for the link! It includes such beautiful images. I love butterflies too. I’m not very good at identifying them though. Thank you for your kind comment! 😘
I hate to be a party-pooper, but I don’t think it’s a Holly Blue. I’ve looked through my Collins Guide to Butterflies of Britain and Europe and the nearest I’ve found is a Bavius Blue (Pseudophilotes bavius) female, which is found around the Mediterranean and mainly in Turkey. However, like a lot of your birds, I’d guess it’s an American species which we don’t have over here in Europe. It is a beautiful butterfly though and well photographed. 😊
I’ve seen the way you celebrate the conclusion of your great adventures Mike and can say with confidence that you are no party pooper! 🍻😉🍻
I have an app on my phone that viewed this image and tells me it’s called an icaricia and they are endangered!https://www.parksconservancy.org/conservation/mission-blue-butterfly
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
I’m not doing any post-walk celebrating at the moment I’m afraid, as all the restaurants are shut. 😌 I had a quick look for your butterfly and this site seems to suggest there’s some debate about it’s ‘type’. Whatever, it is a lovely looking butterfly and unique to NW America. Look after it! https://www.jeffpippen.com/butterflies/lupineblue.htm
Thank you for the link Mike! I really enjoyed reading more about these. I’m so sorry to hear about the uptick in cases in your area. Same here. We are all in this together. Take good care!
Wow, that is a brilliant blue. Nice find and capture. It seems like nature is all around you! Enjoy your day off.

Thank you Chris! It was a busy day off. Errands and chores but I managed a couple walks too. It was nice. I hope yours was great too!

Thank you Morag! I wish it was easier to see how small these are. Maybe 1/2 an inch is generous! I love these too.

Oh yes, we have one that lives on Table Mountain, in Cape Town. It is also about that size.
